If you've trained at Coastal anytime in the last few years, chances are you've seen Mike Rodgers quietly getting after it—no fuss, no spotlight, just showing up and putting in the work.
Mike joined Coastal Strength & Fitness back in August 2021 after dealing with recurring injuries from running. He was looking for something to keep him healthy and strong for the long haul. What he found? A community, a smart training approach, and a whole new level of performance.
Why Mike Started at Coastal:
“I was experiencing persistent injuries from running,” Mike says. “My hope was that strength training would reduce those types of injuries. I saw an ad on Instagram and had my interview with Ben.”
Three years later, mission accomplished—and then some.
What Mike Was Doing Before Coastal:
Mike’s been active his whole life. He was running, cycling, and even squeezing in some disc golf. But nagging injuries from long-distance runs kept derailing his consistency.
What’s Changed Since Then:
Since joining Coastal, Mike’s built a more resilient body and seen big wins on the endurance side:
Fewer injuries
Faster recovery
Improved strength and flexibility
Finished a 50k ultramarathon
Completed the Dopey Challenge at Disney (yes, that’s a 5K, 10K, half marathon, and full marathon… over four straight days)
All without following a running-specific program. Just consistent strength and conditioning, smart training, and lots of support.
What Mike Loves About Coastal:
“So many things...(except the air bike) Everyone is super nice and accepting. It's a comfortable environment and I love seeing people achieve new things and hit new goals. When I first started coming to the gym, everyone was so kind and willing to help me learn new movements. It's something that I will never forget. The coaches have also helped me in so many ways. They are always willing to listen and offer advice."
Favorite Training Day?
“Any day except Thursday—too much cardio.”
Rapid Fire with Mike:
Spirit Animal: The Cookie Monster
Superpower of Choice: Make dogs live forever
Go-To Treat Meal: Chicken (as long as someone else cooks it) and pizza
Mike, thanks for bringing your calm energy, consistency, and solid sense of humor to the gym. We're lucky to have you as part of the Coastal crew.
